Bartholomew "Black Bart" Roberts roamed the seas in the early eighteenth century. He is thought to be the most successful and menacing pirate of his time, with the capture of more than 400 ships and all the accompanying loot.
Roberts was an attractive man and dressed in fancy gentleman's clothing. He wore a rich crimson waistcoat, and breeches, a hat with a red feather, and a diamond cross hanging from a golden chain around his neck.
Roberts career came to an end on February 10th 1722, when he was killed at sea in a conflict off the coast of Africa
